New Parent Information

Parent Presentation for New Entrants

We are so pleased that your child has been offered a place here at St Mark’s Catholic Primary school. On behalf of the Staff, Governors, children and parents, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you and your family to our school community.

Our Reception Class team

Mrs Price (Class teacher and EYFS Assessment Lead) has been part of the St Mark’s family for 15 years and Miss Ford (Class teacher and Phonics Lead) joined us in April 2019 and between them they have a wealth of experience teaching in Early Years and Key Stage 1.  Mrs Entwistle, our Nursery Nurse has been at St Mark’s for 22 years and has recently become our Speech and Language Learning Support champion. Together with Mrs Maxted who joined us in 2015, they support teaching, learning and pastoral care in the Reception class.

Welcome from the Headteacher

‘New Parent Information’ PowerPoint Slides would usually be shared with you during a Parent Information Evening in June which we were unfortunately unable to hold, so I have not had the opportunity to meet new parents yet.  Instead, I have recorded a video voice over to each slide (I’m not a pro as you will see!) so that you are able to listen and follow the slide presentation virtually.

With the kind permission of Walker books, I have also recorded me reading a story, Owl Babies, written by Martin Waddell to share with your child before September.

Parent Welcome pack

In addition, we have produced the following documents to help with transition to Primary School

  • A welcome booklet – contains lots of useful information and photos for you to share with your child

  • Induction pack – uniform list, break and lunchtime, plus a message from our PE teacher.

  • Parent Questionnaire – to help us to get to know your child so to help with a smooth and happy transition to school.

  • COVID 19 Parent Declaration

Starting School in September

We are so excited for your child to be joining Reception Class in September. Due to the current circumstances, when all children return to school on 7th September, the intake for our ‘Little Lions’ in Reception is going to take a different form this year, due to the lost opportunity for parents to visit the school with their children in the Summer Term.  Whilst not perfect, I thank you in advance for your understanding and patience as we try our best to settle your child into school routines which are new to use all.

Please find below the timetable for the new intake.

On Monday 7th September and Tuesday 8th September parents are being offered one 20-minute slot for a drop in with their child; an opportunity to meet the team and have an opportunity to experience the setting and routine e.g. drop off/collection and lunch hall.   From 14th July, a member of staff will be in contact with you to agree an appointment time.  Parents should wait at the gate to the playground at their allotted appointment time to be greeted by one of the Reception Team. Hand sanitiser stations are located at all entrances and all children and parents will be required to use the alcohol based hand sanitiser on arrival and adhere to a 2m social distance.   Parents and child will leave by the Main Reception.  Parents are asked not to bring younger siblings nor grandparents or other relatives to these meetings.  Preferably only one parents should attend.  Parents will be given the opportunity to purchase a book bag from the office on these days.  Children are expected to wear their uniform.

For the rest of the week, the cohort have been split into two groups A and B and children will be offered a daily session; either a morning or afternoon so that by Monday 14th September children are prepared for daily attendance. Please drop off and collect from the school gate to the playground.  On Friday, children will eat their lunch at school.  On this occasion, we ask that parents please provide a nut free packed lunch.

Every year, we encourage parents to support their children to become more independent during the summer holidays but now more than ever we ask for your help, particularly with the social distancing measures in place.  Please start practising changing in and out of the school uniform and PE kit using new words such as plimsoles, shirts, ties.  We have seen children try to put their legs through shirt sleeves!  Ensure that your child can use a knife and fork and feed themselves i.e. have good table manners and/or undo the wrapping of items in their lunchboxes.  Children should be able to go to the toilet by themselves. If your child has any specific needs then please do notify us on the Parental Questionnaire form so that all care plans can be prepared in advance as we want to ensure a warm welcome.

As the Government Guidance for all schools re-opening in September has recently been published advising staggered drop off/collection times, break and lunch times, the daily times for the Reception Class fulltime offer will be advised as soon as the whole school timetable has been formulated.

Thank you in advance for your support whilst we implement these temporary measures.

God bless.
