We are so pleased that your child has been offered a place here at St Mark’s Catholic Primary school. On behalf of the Staff, Governors, children and parents, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you and your family to our school community.
Our Reception Class team
Mrs Price (Class teacher and EYFS Assessment Lead) has been part of the St Mark’s family for 15 years and Mrs Lee (Class teacher and Phonics Lead) joined us in April 2019 and between them they have a wealth of experience teaching in Early Years and Key Stage 1. Mrs Lee will be commencing Maternity leave, early September so from the beginning of the new academic year we also welcome Mrs Dunne as Reception teacher. Mrs Entwistle, our Nursery Nurse has been at St Mark’s for 22 years and has recently become our Speech and Language Learning Support champion. Together with Mrs Maxted who joined us in 2015, they support teaching, learning and pastoral care in the Reception class.

Starting School in September
We are so excited for your child to be joining Reception Class in September. Due to the current circumstances, when all children return to school on Thursday 2nd September, the intake for our ‘Little Lions’ in Reception is going to take a different form this year, due to the lost opportunity for parents to visit the school with their children in the Summer Term. Whilst not perfect, I thank you in advance for your understanding and patience as we try our best to settle your child into school routines.
On Thursday 2nd September and Friday 3rd September parents are being offered one 20-minute slot for a drop in session with their child; an opportunity to meet the team and have an opportunity to experience the setting and routine e.g. drop off/collection and lunch hall. Parents should wait at the gate to the playground at their allotted appointment time to be greeted by one of the Reception Team. Parents and child will leave by the Main Reception. Parents are asked not to bring younger siblings nor grandparents or other relatives to these meetings. Preferably only one parents should attend. Parents will be given the opportunity to purchase a book bag from the office on these days. Children are expected to wear their uniform.
Week commencing 6th September, the cohort have been split into two groups A and B and children will be offered a daily session; either a morning or afternoon to prepare them for fulltime daily attendance. Parents will receive confirmation of each session for their child. Please drop off and collect from the school gate to the playground. For this week, we ask that parents please provide a nut free packed lunch.
Every year, we encourage parents to support their children to become more independent during the summer holidays. Please start practising changing in and out of the school uniform and PE kit using new words such as plimsoles, shirts, ties. We have seen children try to put their legs through shirt sleeves! Ensure that your child can use a knife and fork and feed themselves i.e. have good table manners and/or undo the wrapping of items in their lunchboxes. Children should be able to go to the toilet by themselves. If your child has any specific needs then please do notify us on the Parental Questionnaire form so that all care plans can be prepared in advance as we want to ensure a warm welcome.
The Government Guidance for all schools re-opening in September has not yet been published. We will advise parents of any specific requirement. Thank you in advance for your support as building positive home/school relationships are very important to us at St Mark's .
